THE JOURNEY TO CANAAN – #1 Introduction

With an arm of strength did the LORD bring Israel out of Egypt to take them to the land of Canaan – a land flowing with milk and honey, a land of rest. A lot happened on that journey, the story of which covers five books of the Bible. Though it might appear as history, it’s been said that if we don’t learn from history, we’ll repeat history.

We do know that we are on a journey, a journey to Canaan which could translate to a journey to destiny, but more importantly, a journey to that glorious city, heaven’s shore, having left Egypt (for those that have). That we might not repeat the flaws of the people of Israel, it is important we draw lessons from their journey and apply them to ours. The scriptures say that those things which “were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort the scriptures might have hope”, for those things “happened to them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come” (Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11).

Israel’s journey in many ways does relate to ours and is filled with much treasure to arm us as we go on this journey to that glorious city. For Israel and us, there is an “Egypt” that has been left and our destination is a land of rest. Yes, we know the journey is not all rosy but we are assured of the promised glory. And so, we walk by faith and not by sight trusting in the LORD who for us did fight. We rest on His leading during the journey trusting Him to, as He promised, take us to the land of rest, and hence, we do not fret.

And so, I invite you to join me as we together glean from Israel’s journey that we do not come short of the promise being left us of entering into God’s rest. It is tagged THE JOURNEY TO CANAAN – gleaning and learning from Israel’s journey.

The treasure in the record of Israel’s journey in the Scriptures is certainly inexhaustible and so, we’ll examine events and happenings in their journey and bring them to ours as the Lord will reveal to us.

May God’s grace see us through.
