Before you can be said to be on a journey, you definitely must have departed from a place. And so, for you to be on this journey to Canaan, you certainly must have left Egypt. We begin this journey of faith, the Christian race, the day we depart from the Egypt of sin.
There are certain things I’d like to clear from the air. At the time Moses, God’s messenger sent to deliver the Children of Israel, came to Pharaoh and with the working of great signs in Egypt, Pharaoh gave an offer that the people of Israel worship God in Egypt because that was the premise upon which they were seeking to be set free. Moses would not agree to such terms. As Israel couldn’t worship God in Egypt, so also, we can’t still be in sin and worldliness, and claim to be a people worshipping God. What God told the Children of Israel was that He was going to bring them first out of Egypt and then He will take them unto Himself for a people and it is His people who have been brought out of Egypt that will be brought into Canaan. God’s peculiar people and treasure are those who have departed from Egypt. “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:17 – 18).
The journey to destiny and that glorious city begins the day we depart from iniquity to follow the God who has been from eternity. It is important to note and know that you cannot fulfill destiny outside of God. At best, you can fulfill personal ambitions. But for the purpose of your existence to fulfilled, you must get to come into a relationship with the one who has the design of your life in the palm of His hand.
Israel had to be brought out of Egypt for them to be brought in to Canaan. We must also come out our Egypt (sin) before we can be come into the promised Canaan, which Jesus said He has gone to prepare. Jesus also forewarned that they which had not come out of sin and will want to come into His Father’s house will not be allowed in. Quoting Him, He said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Let it be published that those who don’t heed to the first command to depart from iniquity will definitely hear the second command to depart for eternity.

So, before the Journey there must be a departure. The Lord wrought mighty works in Christ that we might be delivered from the Egypt when He raised Him from the dead. The firstborn sons of Egypt died that Israel might be delivered, but the firstborn son of God, His only begotten Son died that you might be delivered. What excuse do you have? No Pharaoh can hold you back because all Pharaohs have been dealt with and triumphed over by the death and resurrection of the Son of God. You are the only one who can hold yourself back. You must come out of Egypt and join the Lord’s host on their way to Canaan.
Before the journey, there must be a departure.
