It is with great joy that I welcome you to this new year. I pray that for you reading this, 2022 will be a year of many victories and manifold testimonies in Jesus’ name. The Lord has been gracious to us in bringing us into this new year for the accomplishment of His purpose. For this I am grateful, and I’m sure you are too.
The momentum with which we begin the year could determine our motions throughout the year. Nonetheless, it is not just the speed we begin the year with that determines if we’ll be sustained throughout the year, but the strength of the wheel which we ride on. The direction in which we are driven is also crucial that we do not waste months or even the entire year only to discover that we went by a way outside of God’s purpose. This year, we definitely need speed, sustaining strength, and direction. And if we’ll be honest with ourselves, we know that a combination of these three is beyond us. We need to be carried by the Almighty on eagles’ wings.

“Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings and brought you unto myself.” (Exodus 19:4). The eagle is known for three things – strength, speed, and sight. To be carried is to operate with swift speed, supernatural strength bringing sustenance and a sharp spiritual sight occasioning clear direction.
This year, you need to be carried. A man that is carried by the Almighty cannot be weary on life’s journey because his journeying is not is in His strength but in the strength of the carrier – the Almighty. For “they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31). A man that is carried by the Almighty knows no struggles.. That portion of scriptures intrigues me. The previous verse made known the certainty of fainting for youths and young men. The glory of young men is their strength (Proverbs 20:29), yet there is still the certainty and not a probability of youths fainting “even the youths shall faint”. In case you’ve not considered and acknowledged it, you cannot on your own. The way of the eagle in the air is not the way of struggle but of gliding with grace unto glory.
Many birds fly (even the chicken), but not many birds fly high and are sustained in the sky. The eagle is one bird which can fly high and yet stay high in the sky for hours. It is said that they could fly for up to 6 hours. “The eternal God is they refuge, and underneath thee are the everlasting arms…” (Deuteronomy 33:27). It is the characteristic of men, even young men, to faint; but “the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary…”

One requirement to be carried is surrender. Like a child, you must open your arms to God to hold you in His hands for we surely cannot fall. You must release yourself to the Almighty and trust that He is able to carry you and sustain you safely to that promised land. To be carried is to surrender wholly to the way that He decides to carry you through. There is never a better route for you than the route that God decides to take you through. He is aware of other “available” routes, but for you, the route he takes you through is the best which will get you safely to the desired end. The Lord sees the end. In fact, He is the end. He is aware of all that is on the way. Well, He also is the way. The way to get to God is through God. Hence, we should live in absolute surrender to Him, trusting His word and His ways.
In all your journeyings this year, if you do not get closer to God and into more of Him, you would have wasted the whole year and surely wasn’t carried by God. “…how I bare you on eagles’ wings and brought you unto myself.” Yes, God had the intention of bringing the Israelites into Canaan, but He primarily wanted to bring them unto Himself.
This year, as you yield yourself to God, He will carry you on His wings. He will bring you to the place and pinnacle where you couldn’t by your strength get to or attain. He’ll be your Anchor, your Helper, and the Lifter of your head. You are held and helped by the Almighty. Amen.
