Welcome back here and welcome to March. We make progressions into more of God this month by the help of the Lord.
All through the series thus far, we have never taken a cursory look into the rod of Moses. We touched on that under the Liberation series on Israel’s deliverance from the Egyptian captivity. There we highlighted that majority of the signs wrought by God in Egypt required that Moses stretched forth His hand toward heaven. We spoke of the rise of an ARMY – An extension of the ARM of Yahweh. In Acts 4:30, the apostles prayed saying, “…And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, that by the stretching forth of thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.” You can read up that post here.
As we make progressions on the journey to “Caanan”, there is one thing we must carry with us on our journey as it guarantees our prevalence despite the turbulence and troubles that may be on the journey to victory. It is the rod of God. Moses was constantly instructed right from His call, to carry the rod with Him (Exodus 4:17).
The world is in despair, and there is a great need for the rise of an army with the rod of God in their hands. After that Moses encountered God at Horeb and received the mandate to go bring the children of Israel up from the land of captivity, the rod in his hand was given a new designation – the rod of God (Exodus 4:20). There was a need to differentiate this from other rods because it wasn’t just a rod but God’s rod. In this generation, as has been since the generation of the apostles, many people carry different things which they call rod, but not just any rod will do, not just any rod will divide the sea and establish the dominion of God on the earth. We need to carry that which is genuine, received from God after the commission he gave. We do not call ourselves, run into the bush, cut down the branch of a tree, and then call it a rod, and attempt to use it to exercise dominion on earth. We will be no better than the magicians of Pharaoh. In fact, we are sure to face defeat just like the seven sons of Sceva.
The instruction God gave Moses was “…lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it” (Exodus 14:16). Here I see authority. God instructed Moses to divide the sea. Preceding the instruction God gave, He wondered why Moses was crying unto Him. “Why criest thou unto me?” Moses was expecting God to do something from heaven, meanwhile, God was waiting for Moses to take action on the earth. Jesus consolidated this reality when He said, “whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). Many times, we lament over situations that we face, and the state of things around us, whereas, God has given us the authority to take charge of those situations. There is a power at work within you that must be put to use.

Stretch forth thy rod. Oh, that we may know that which has been given to us and deploy it. Moses had the rod in His hand yet was running helter-skelter for a solution. The Israelites were troubled and the key to their deliverance was in his hand, yet he didn’t know. The key to the salvation and deliverance of your generation is in you. Activate it! Paul said to Timothy, “…stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.” There is a power at work inside of you that must be put to use. Only then will you see the doings of the Lord, which abundantly exceeds all we ask or think, for you and through you. That thing which you carry inside you is more than what you think it is. It’s a key: not just a key, but a master key. Though small, in it lies the capacity to shut or open any door. Jesus said, “I will give unto you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
The rod of Moses was one that swallowed up other rods. Jesus said, “I give unto you power to tread on serpent and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by enemies hurt you.” We see men carrying false rods like the magicians of Pharaoh. The instrument of victory over the prevailing falsehood is the true rod of God. We see false rods in our days, and many are derailed and deceived by what is done through them. The reason for the prevalence of falsehood is due to the fact those, who carry the truth have not risen in the capacity and authority of what they carry. Sons are rising with dominion to prevail over the enemy and all falsehood.

The rod in Moses’ hand was not to be a walking stick, but a weapon in the Spirit. With this rod, God showed forth the greatness of His might in Egypt, bringing plagues upon the whole land. With the rod, a way was made for Israel to pass through in the red sea, and the adamant Egyptians were drowned in the sea. With the rod, the victory was secured and procured for Israel against the Amalekites. With the rod, the rock was made to bring forth water for the whole nation to drink from. With the rod, Moses was able to connect with Divinity and communicate His reality on earth. What you carry in you is more than what you think it is, activate it.
How that God deployed a mere branch of a tree which was used to tend to a flock, to a weapon for exercising the dominion of God in the earth. What’s in your hand, a rod? What’s in your house, a little oil? Yield it to God. He makes much more than we could ever imagine of what we entrust in Him.
“The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.” Psalm 110:2-3
Rising in the strength of Yahweh to extend his dominion on earth. Thy kingdom come and thy will be established in the earth and in the hearts of men.
