THE JOURNEY TO CANAAN – #3 The King of Egypt Died, Israel Cried, God Heard And Remembered

Newton’s first law of motion states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. This law of motion reflects what that goes on in the spiritual.

The sequence of events as recorded in the scriptures caught my attention. In Exodus 2:23 – 24, the scripture says, “And it came to pass in the process of time, that the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed by reason of their bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God by reason of their bondage. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.” The children of Israel had probably thought that by reason of transition of rule, a king will arise and favour them and release them from the bondage. The opposite was the case. Realization suddenly dawned on them that they had been in this situation for generations. It was not until after Moses had been born that they cried out to God.

Things will always be as they have been from generation to generation until men arise and call for a change of the status quo through their prayers and cries to God. Daniel understood this truth and when he came to the understanding that the desolation of Israel as prophesied ought to be seventy years, he began to fast and to pray to God. Had Daniel kept silent, the desolations would have continued even beyond the seventy years unless someone called out to God for His intervention. Nehemiah also had this understanding. Hearing that Jerusalem lay in waste, he called out to God and God sent him to rebuild those walls.

When the Bible says God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, it doesn’t mean that God forgot His covenant. God says He never forgets His people though a mother could forget her child. Heaven’s portal of blessings and deliverance is ever open active but it will only be a reality in the earth realm when men access it through the browser of prayers; Jesus Christ being the URL and the Holy Spirit providing the internet facility for navigation. Electricity flows through a conduit and is accessible by a socket. If you want to charge your dead phone battery, what do you do? You connect your phone charger to the socket and flip on the switch. That socket is Jesus Christ, by whom we have access to the abundant graces and provisions of God. We connect by faith and flip on heavens switch for the release of blessings by prayers. We could also liken it to a tap connected to a pipe through which water flows. You get to receive water when you turn on the tap and put your vessel beneath it.

Jesus in Matthew 6 tells us not to take thought for things, saying our Heavenly Father knows we have need of these things. In the early verses of the next chapter, He says we should ask. If our Heavenly Father knows we have need of these things, instinct tells us we don’t need to ask, but God requires us to ask. Apostle James tells us that we have not because we ask not.

God had covenanted with Abraham but Israel would have remained in bondage, had they not cried. Jesus Christ has paid the full and ultimate sacrifice for sins on the cross, but we only Get saved when we call upon the name of the Lord. We can say that when we call, God remembers the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

We enter into every year with great promises and prophesies of God, but I tell you that the year will pass without you receiving the reality of those promises except you call for it by your prayers to God.

Jesus asked that man who had been impotent for 38 years, “wilt thou be made whole?” He asked blind Bartimaeus, “what wilt thou that I should do unto thee?”

If you don’t call out to God for a change, things will remain just the same.

  1. […] Before God came to their rescue, they had to cry out to Him. The reason why that situation still stands as at now is probably that you haven’t cried to God. We dwelt on this in the third session of this series. You can read it up here. […]
