The recent happenings in the country have left many in despair. We ask, “what is happening?”. Hope seemed to be rising when the protests began and spread across the nation. We were confident that a new nation is emerging. But suddenly, things took a strange turn. No one expected it.
Now, we must know that a protest cannot secure Nigeria’s release from Egypt. What do I mean by this? Israel embarked on a peaceful protest in Egypt that they might be let go to serve God in the wilderness. It turned out the way they didn’t expect and Moses went back to God and said, “Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.” Does this now mean that the protest was out of place? I strongly believed that God did stir up the peaceful protests. It was God who instructed Moses to gather the elders of Israel and speak unto Pharaoh.
The protest was ordained by God to cause a stirring up in the people to know that deliverance is here not just near. I also believe that God allowed the multiplication of Israel’s burdens after the protests to make them detest Egypt and for no reason want to come back. All these happenings are permitted by God to make us greatly desire a new nation. Those who considered prayers as less important saying this is the time to act and not pray will have to return to their knees having hit a brick wall.
Prophecy had gone ahead of Israel that they will be captives in a strange land where they will be afflicted for four hundred years after which judgement will come upon their captors and they will be delivered. For Nigeria, prophecies have gone ahead that Nigeria will go through dark times after which a new dawn of righteousness will emerge.
God caused a stirring after which there will be a stretching of His arm. God will be justified when He smites Pharaoh and Egypt with His mighty hand seeing that they were given an opportunity to let them go. “Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now thou shalt see what I shall do unto Pharaoh, for with a strong hand he shall let them go, and with a strong hand he shall drive them out of his land.” (Exodus 6:1). He smites from mildly to meanly until men bow to His will.
You know, Pharaoh’s refusal to let Israel go was a combination of ignorance and arrogance. He said, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.” God made Himself known to Pharaoh and then through Him to the world. A time came where his magicians confessed, “This is the finger of God.” His refusal to let Israel go from that moment was no more based on ignorance but arrogance and hardness of heart.
God is not just rescuing us from the hand of Pharaoh, He is taking us from the land of Egypt. What many see at this time is the pronounced brutal hand of men after the order of Pharaoh who exploit the people and make them build for them treasure houses yet serving them with hostility and so, we cry for deliverance from the hand of Pharaoh. God will not just deal with Pharaoh but will take us out of Egypt. For if we remain, other Pharaohs will arise from Egypt even more brutal than the present.

There is a structure of Egypt in our land which we must be delivered from. The structure of oppression, corruption and many other vices. God promised Israel He would pass through the land “And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon the throne, even to the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill…” (Exodus 11:5). All the plagues that God sent came upon all Egypt and not just the house of Pharaoh. I wonder who will be left when the LORD smites through Egypt. This I know: “the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.” (Exodus 11:7).
Israel didn’t have to fight a war with Egypt before their release: God fought for them. Nigeria will not experience war. Throughout the plaguing season in Egypt, the people of Israel experienced peace. We just need to calm down and watch in prayers as the LORD works till the establishment of His Kingdom and counsel in our nation. “I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, And give him no rest, till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” (Isaiah 62:2 – 3)
